“Passenger” Directed by Andrzej Munk, Witold Lesiewicz Poland, 1963, 62 minutes
During the transatlantic voyage, Liza, a security guard in Oświęcim, and Marta, a Polish prisoner, meet. Although they do not exchange words, the meeting evokes memories. Liza confides in an oblivious husband from her past, whitewashing her role in a concentration camp. But there is another version of the memoir, more gloomy — in which Liza tries to buy the prisoner's loyalty with a few gestures of kindness. And she is frankly disappointed when she is not met with gratitude... This story has no ending. Martha gets off the ship, Liza will never know how the prisoner survived the camp.
