SHEPHERDESS AND CHIMNEY SWEEP

“The Shepherdess and the Chimney Man” is a contemporary story based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Its action initially takes place in the orderly world of porcelain figurines inhabiting an old wardrobe, among which are the Shepherd, the Chimney Man, the Deer, the Donkey, the Vase, the Chinese and the Commander-in-Chief General. The lives of the protagonists are ruled by repeatability — constantly playing the same role, telling the same story over and over again.

One night, the Shepherdess, the Chimney Sweeper and all the rest appear unexpectedly in little Victoria's dream. This time their performance does not go according to the established order, as the Shepherdess begins to question her destiny and decides to change her life. The title character is a brave and independent figure, maybe even a little rebellious, and that is why she decides to make radical changes. He does not want to sit endlessly on a dusty closet and play the same role for 180 years. She does not believe that her fate has been written in the books once and for all. The Shepherdess and the Chimney Man attempt to escape. This decision is not easy, especially for the Chimney Man, who lacks confidence and courage, but above all fears the consequences he may face if the almighty General finds out about everything.

The show in its fairytale form — which was designed by the MIXER group — combines humor, adventure and fantasy with the theme of power and loneliness and responsibility for one's own decisions. Of all this, the most important is the belief that destiny does not have to be immutable, and that the courage of one person can encourage others to act.

The performance used video materials/visualizations with the participation of Zofia Jezierska.
