Is it possible to leave your homeland and still never stop missing it? What is home when life forces us to start all over again?
We invite you to an author's meeting with Lech Foremski — a writer and multidisciplinary artist, author of psychological, moral and historical prose.
The starting point for the conversation will be “Passports to Paradise” — the author's latest literary project, inspired by the experience of emigration, the memory of the homeland and the search for one's own place in the world.
In the autumn of 1981, just before martial law was introduced, Lech Foremski left Poland with his wife and young daughter. After staying in an Austrian refugee camp, the family began a new life in the United States. More than forty years later, the author returned to the places of his childhood and youth to confront his personal memories with the image of contemporary Poland.
During the meeting we will talk about emigration and longing for the homeland, the power of memories, social transformations and how personal experiences become an inspiration for the creation of literature. We will also consider what a sense of belonging is and whether it is possible to find your home again after years spent away from the country.
Lech Foremski is the author of the books “Island in the Puddle” (2019), “Time of the Gray Rainbow” (2021) and “Finding the Motherland” (2024). For many years he also worked in photography, painting, sculpture and radio activities. In the United States, he created and hosted the Polish-American radio program “Quo Vadis”.
The meeting will be an opportunity to learn about the author's extraordinary biography, talk about literature and history, as well as to reflect on what connects us to places, people and memories that remain with us throughout life.
