Patriarch — EPITAPH FOR THE PROPHET ILYA — THE VERSHALIN MYSTERY

“Epitaph for the Prophet Ilya - The Mystery of Verszalińskie” is a musical and theatrical performance with a ritual structure, inspired by the story of Verszalin and the character of Elias Klimowicz. Music is born on stage and is the axis of dramaturgy, and the ritual songs of Podlasie and the borderlands in their original linguistic and heterophonic records are the axis of the process that creates the whole performance. If you say after leaving the show that it is a folk musical, it will probably be so, if you say that it is a radio show, we will also agree, if you say that it is a ritual mystery, it will probably also be so. This is not a narrative biographical story. It is a stage process in which the viewer observes:

The birth of faith, the construction of the community, the mechanism of the creation of the prophet and his inevitable fall The play operates on the border of theater, concert and rite. This is not a RELIGIOUS spectacle - it is a PODLASKIE FOLK REQUIEM.

WHY NOW? The project touches on extremely topical issues:

the need for authority the emergence of spiritual, ideological, political leaders collective projection of the sense of responsibility of the community for their own illusions It is a spectacle about how easily faith is born and how difficult it is to distinguish it from the need or views that are imposed on us as an identity.

All performances are presented to the audience in a theatrical form “in a sitting”
