The event will be devoted to the work and life of Józef Czapski — painter, cartoonist, writer and diarist, as well as one of the important witnesses of Polish history of the 20th century.
Participants will get to know more about his painting and drawing work, the artist's insightful look at the people, places and objects on which the artist stopped his gaze. This is a chance for Józef Czapski to stop being an unknown or poorly recognizable figure.
It is also an opportunity to get to know the literary side of Czapski's work. Participants will be able to look into his selected books and learn about the unusual history of lectures about Proust, which Czapski gave from memory to his fellow prisoners.
The meeting will be accompanied by three mini-workshops inspired by the artist's work — composing his own still life, arranging a scene inspired by a cafe and sketching a selected detail of the character.
The event will not only honor the artistic figure of Józef Czapski, but will provoke reflection on art, literature and memory as well as their own experience of looking closely at man and the world.
