Pelcia, or how to live so as not to succeed
Author and director: Joanna Szczepkowska Cast: Jan Jurkowski and Joanna Szczepkowska
When an artist makes the decision to withdraw from the world, an investigation begins: is it a matter of maladaptation? Loss of talent? Supremacy? And above all: does he have the right to do so? We are used to the constant presence of celebrities in the media space, to the constant news about their private lives and to the need to be accessible to viewers and journalists. But is it really the duty of the artist?
In the author's play by Joanna Szczepkowska, a mature woman accidentally meets a young leader of an extravagant musical ensemble. For a boy, entering the world of the heroine is like crossing a magical threshold, beyond which there is an unreal experience and begins to enter madness. Two completely different perspectives, two different eras and above all — two generations, conducting a peculiar game with each other in concert, in which two different personalities clash: Marta, lonely by choice and not found in the modern world, and Piotr, who pursues success, fame and constant “happening”. What will come of this meeting? What is Martha's secret? And who is the titular Pelcia?
