PER MONSTER AD ASTRA

The Belgian vocal ensemble Graindelavoix is fascinated by the voice and psychological effects of early vocal music. For them, the focus is not on uniform beautiful sound; the singers can and should express their subjective emotional feelings with a very personal voice color.

They developed the program “Per Monstra ad Astra” for our festival. From the Middle Ages to the late Renaissance, from Guillaume de Machaut to Carlo Gesualdo, the 8 singers, led by Björn Schmelzer, explore the age-old idea of sphere harmony and show how music and the cosmos were connected not only through harmony, but also through irrationality, infinite variation and expressive chromatism.
