Performance: WE TAKE THE DISHES

About the event

In this autumn's big exhibition Couples Therapy you can experience the work VI TA'R OPVASKEN by the artist duo Bank & Rau — and this evening you can actually experience them throwing themselves over the dishes!

Equipped with dishwashing brush, paint, nail and hammer, the artist duo embarks on a gigantic “dishwashing”. A dish that transforms into a series of independent works that over the evening occupy the exhibition space.

Experience Bank & Rau in action as they bring the work to life over two hours — and change it. For when the artist duo leaves the exhibition this evening, the work has found a new form, filled with new narratives. Stories that point to everyday life, family life, maintenance work — and the invisible work that has historically been on women's shoulders.

About Bank & Rau

Bank & Rau/Lone Bank (b. 1970) and Tanja Rau (b. 1970) have formed a duo since 1999, when they joined forces at the School of Wall & Rum at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

They are absorbed by the communities of the welfare state, the invisible work that takes place in the family and in the institutions of society. Artistically, they usually work from fictional characters and based on concrete locations, which set the narrative in their works in motion.

Briefly about the exhibition

This autumn, four Danish artist duos — Bank & Rau, Hesselholdt & Mejlvang, J&K/ Janne Schäfer and Kristine Agergaard as well as Randi & Katrine — have entered SMK with a number of spectacular works. Installations, sculptures, video works and performances that focus sharply on power, the welfare state and communities.
