The Drums in the lead role concert is a rare opportunity to listen to works composed for percussion instruments. The instrumentalists of the Wrocław Opera will perform compositions by two contemporary artists — Ivan Trevino and Clark Hubbard.
Ivan Trevino (born 1983) is a Mexican-American composer, drummer, and educator. He is known throughout the world for his contribution to the development of the percussion repertoire. His music uniquely combines the sounds of indie-pop with the aesthetics of contemporary classical music.
Clark Hubbard (born 1995) is an American drummer, composer, artist, and educator whose work draws on his background in classical, contemporary, jazz, minimalist, rock, and art-pop music. The musicians of the Wrocław Opera will perform the composition Stardust. This is a drum quartet for two vibraphones and two drummers playing multiple instruments, composed on commission from the Vanderbilt Percussion Group. Musically, Stardust is a fusion of rock, metal, funk and contemporary classical music, drawing inspiration from the works of Tool, Metallica, Ghost-Note, and artists such as Todd Terje, Steve Reich and David Lang.
