ul. Władysława IV 7-15, Gdynia

ate is a solo project by Petar Petkov, guitarist and composer, focused on minimalist and experimental musical forms. The music of ate focuses on the interior of a single sound — its pulsation, instability, relationship with silence and space. The key here is the study of resonances and spectral structure of sound — its timbre, harmonic sounds and psychoacoustic phenomena. It is the music of slow decisions and mindfulness that allows you to linger in the sound and listen to its wavering.

Petar Petkov is a guitarist, composer and sound artist from Bulgaria, who has been associated with Gdańsk for 15 years. A graduate of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, in his artistic practice he combines early, contemporary and experimental music, improvisation and work with sound, resonance and acoustic space. His work includes reinterpretations of Renaissance repertoire, minimalist music, drone and sonorism. A special place is occupied by the 12-string guitar, whose rich, multi-layered and resonant sound becomes a tool for exploring new forms of expression. Since 2016 he has also been developing a solo drone project “ate”, focused on minimalism, repetition, resonance and the relationship of sound with silence and space.

He is a multiple recipient of the Cultural Scholarship of the City of Gdańsk, as well as a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Scholarship for Creators of the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

His projects have been presented, among others, during the festivals Cappella Angelica, Luksfery Festival, OSA Festival, MedRen Warsaw, Solidarity of Arts and All About Freedom Festival, as well as in the framework of Open House Gdańsk, Cologne of Artists, Ambient House and events devoted to experimental, improvised and early music. In 2023, his composition “Synchronicity” was presented at the opening of the All About Freedom Festival at the European Solidarity Center.

His activities also include research and educational projects related to the performance of early music, as well as composition, recordings and site-specific activities.

The concert is free. Admission is free.

An event from the IN/OUT series, a series of musical events oriented around abstract and avant-garde sounds and free improvisation, created and supervised by Krzyśek Regliński.
