“Phantom” by Maury Yeston is one of the most popular and beautiful musical titles in the history of musical literature.
The plot of the musical is based on the canvas of Gaston Leroux's 1911 novel The Phantom of the Opera and centers on the fate of young soprano Christine Daae, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious deformed musical genius known as the Phantom of the Opera. It is an extremely attractive theme, from which not only stage music art, but also pop culture draws handfuls. The universality and the atmosphere of the narrative make the show interesting for both young and old viewers. The specificity of this work, in contrast to Webber's version — the most decorated — consists in transferring the weight of the genre of the musical layer towards the opera, which at the same time raises the artistic level and poses a greater challenge for the artistic ensemble. Therefore, our performance was directed by Daniel Kustosik - an outstanding director of both operettas and musicals.
Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit's musical isn't just gripping music — it's a dark tale of loneliness and unhappy love.
