Cinema Discomfort is a new film series of Kinoteka dedicated to films that cross the boundaries of the emotional and psychological comfort of the viewer.
These are strong, bold and intense images that offer no easy distance or simple answers. They confront violence, trauma, alienation, loneliness or moral ambiguity, leaving anxiety, ambivalence and emotions that are difficult to sort out after the session.
The series is not based on the genre, but on the experience of the viewer. It undermines classical catharsis and offers no easy solution. It is a cinema that is worth seeing right in the cinema hall — on the big screen, in focus and without a safe distance.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Erika Kohut, a piano teacher at the Vienna Conservatory, leads a life of rigor and control. At home, she remains entangled in a toxic relationship with her bossy mother, outside of him she meticulously hides obsessions and desires that find no outlet in her orderly everyday life. The appearance of a young student, Walter, violates the established order and triggers tensions that have long remained below the surface.
Michael Haneke's “The Pianist” is a cool, uncompromising study of control, obsession, lust, and violence. The director, with his characteristic precision, looks at the boundaries between closeness and domination, desire and transgression. Isabelle Huppert creates one of the most intense and memorable roles of her career.
TRIGGER WARNING: violence, sexual violence, erotic content, self-harm, nudity.
