Picasso and Pikasiaki — curated tour

At the exhibition “Picasso and pikasiaki. Modern ceramics” we present six selected Pablo Picasso platters accompanied by Polish original and factory ceramics. Modern trends appeared in this field of art and design in the mid-1950s with the onset of the so-called post-October thaw. The rejection of social realism and the resulting principles of the creators in force led artists and designers to start creating vessels with organic, sometimes asymmetrical shapes, and when decorating them they resorted to strong, often contrasting colors. Characteristic, abstract or stylized motifs decorating the objects were associated with the work of the Spanish artist, hence their popular name “pikasy” or “pikasiaki”.
