Vincent Munier in the film “Songs of the Forest” returns to his roots. He shows his family and the forest that shaped him.
It is an intimate story about love for son and father, but also for nature. “This time there is no expedition to remote corners or any exoticism; rather, it is a journey into the forest that has shaped who I am today. The approach here is more immersive, and the camera itself is almost like an animal presence that blends into the environment instead of dominating it. Our goal is to observe wildlife, but they are also constantly watching us. What interests me is precisely this mirroring: filming not from a position of strength, but from a position of weakness, with great attentiveness,” says the director.
It is also a family movie designed for viewers of all ages. He recalls a fairy tale about what our relationships might look like if we took an example from animals: “Already at a very early stage, the film began to resemble an evening vigil or a fairy tale. The hut has become a focal point, like a home campfire around which everyone gathers, where stories come to life and are passed down from generation to generation. However, this story is not only about the family itself; it is also a way to convey that the forest also tells its own story,” Munier says of his work on the film.
