The old carpenter Geppetto desperately wants a child. One evening, he carves a doll out of a piece of wood — and suddenly she comes to life. Pinocchio is in the world. And with him, two questions to which neither Geppetto nor Pinocchio know the answer: How does being a father go, how does being a child go?

And Pinocchio wants to find out everything right away. He's off to school first, of course. It can't be that difficult, Pinocchio thinks: Read today, write tomorrow, done the day after tomorrow. If only getting there wasn't so exciting! There are the fox and the cat who know where gold grows. Or the colorful toy country, where everything is allowed. Pinocchio follows a thousand branches until he stands on the wide sea instead of in front of the school. And Geppetto? He is waiting for Pinocchio to return. He wanted a child, but he didn't expect it to turn the world upside down so impatiently. At some point, he realizes that he must set out himself to understand Pinocchio.

In Philipp Löhle's retelling of the magical adventure story, overwhelmed parents meet overwhelmed children and discover together what they can be for each other if they set aside their expectations. Director Alexander Riemenschneider brings “Pinocchio” to the stage as a musical family piece.
