The ancient inventor Gepetto is lonely and yearns for someone to love. When his doll is suddenly brought to life, a great wish is fulfilled: a doll which is alive and breathes just like a real boy, but which, with its body of wood, does not feel like the other children.

In his quest to be like the others — go to school and live like the other children — Pinocchio's curiosity sends him on an adventurous and perilous journey. His naive faith in his surroundings confronts him with some of life's great dilemmas when he encounters a world full of strange figures, temptations and deceptions. Events that show just how human he really is.

PINOCCHIO is a grim and jarring yet heartfelt tale of a father's unconditional love. In a surreal circus universe, we are taken on Pinocchio's adventure. Accompanied by dystopian double bass, audiences are faced with the same dilemmas as Pinocchio: Should one go to school or dragon with the circus instead?

After the performance, the Artistic Laboratory will open, prepared in collaboration with Michael Hansen, workshop leader at Statens Museum for Kunst. In the artistic laboratory, children and adults can explore the themes of the performance through creative play that gives children and their adults time and space for the performance to store up — and last long after the carpet falls. Artistic Laboratory is included in the ticket.

PINOCCHIO is not recommended for children under 7 years of age.
