A performance based on the novel by Carl Collodi in a new interpretation by Joël Pommerat. His hero, Pinocchio, meets on his way not only bad, but also good people who love him: a father who sacrifices himself for him, a fairy who shows him the right way. The show shows that it is worth doing well not out of fear of punishment, but out of concern for yourself and others. Unlike the book, it grants the young hero the right to make mistakes and bad choices as a natural stage, necessary for him to independently, on his own, on his own mistakes, learn to distinguish good from evil. The character of Pinocchio, well known to children and adults, has penetrated deeply into European culture and art - not only for children. From the point of view of child psychology, however, its message is already somewhat archaic. The child described by Collodi — the jumpsuit is primarily intended to meet the expectations of adults, to do what belongs to him, in a word - to be “polite”. About the event

The reinterpretation of this story by Joël Pommerat gives subjectivity to the child. Instead of a “rude”, demanding “repair” boy, he shows us a young man who simply matures: confronts adults, experiences different things, learns from mistakes and acquires the courage to follow his own path and that he has already set himself.

We build our show out of love for children and admiration for them - say the creators. - We are looking for values important for modern children in the story about the wooden boy. “Pinocchio” is for us a story about the realization of our own desires and dreams, about the search for freedom — which is both a privilege and a challenge. Childhood is a constant balance between what we can and what we want, what is forbidden and what is desired. It's a true rollercoaster. Our show will certainly not lack crazy adventures, encounters with strange characters, reasons to laugh and situations that are somewhat threatening. The author of the production and director is Agata Kucińska, known to the audience of the Wrocław Puppet Theater not only as an actress, but also the creator of the plays “In the middle of the sun, ash accumulates” and “How many frogs weigh the moon”. The performance is played on the Big Stage, mainly in a live set, using animation of dolls and forms and expressive costumes by Michał Dracza.Description of the play in simple textAgata Kucińska's play is a contemporary version of the famous novel by Carl Collodi. Lonely Gepetto carves a little boy out of wood and calls him Pinocchio. She tries to raise him like an ordinary child. Pinocchio, however, is disobedient. He lies, he doesn't want to go to school, he runs away from home. He meets people on his way who deceive him and harm him. Gepetto and the good Fairy forgive him for his mistakes and try to help. Pinocchio in the play, however, is not a bad boy. It's just a child who makes mistakes, learns to live. He is imperfect, because he is just looking for his own way.Unusual scenography plays an important role in the performance. The main material is a sponge. Many elements of the world depicted were made of it: trees, furniture, a car.The actors combine the game in costumes with animation, that is, the revival of soft spongy forms.
