Piotr Damasiewicz — Hanif Khan Duo is an innovative band that skillfully combines the intricate rhythms of classical Indian music with the melodic richness of Carnatic traditions, seamlessly integrating elements of Western music, world music and traditional Polish folk music. This combination creates a unique and captivating soundscape that appeals to both traditional music lovers and contemporary audiences alike. The band's vision is to create a seamless synthesis between Indian raga, while embracing influences from Western music, harmonizing the best of all worlds. Their performances highlight intricate tala patterns, emotional rags, and the dynamic interaction between rhythm and melody.

Hanif Khan is a blackboard virtuoso from New Delhi, India, currently based in London, who is famous for both popularizing classical forms of Indian music and for creating new sounds through the use of his talent in fusion. He has performed all over the world — in Europe, the Middle East and North America — as well as in the UK, giving concerts for members of the royal family, among others. As an educator, Hanif shares his passion for “taal” (the Indian concept of rhythm) in one-on-one lessons, group workshops and master classes. He was honored by the National Conservatory of Music of the Noor Al-Hussein Foundation and the International Music Center for his contribution to an international meeting dedicated to the promotion of local musical heritage in the era of globalization. His musical journey began under the guidance of his father, Usta Hidayat Khan, an esteemed master of the board game in India.

Hanif Khan is a UK-based professional tabla player with a lifelong interest and experience in music. A son of renowned tabla player Ustad Hidayat Khan, he is a much sought after and versatile percussionist and performs with both Indian and European musicians and dancers. He is an accomplished, classically trained musician with a career spanning several decades, which has included international performances in Europe, the Middle East and North America, as well as UK wide performances.

He has been involved in several prestigious concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, The Royal Opera House, Edinburgh Festival, Glastonbury Festival, and Womad Festival. His audiences have included members of the British Royal Family and pop royalty. He has also been a resident table-player on The Kite Runner Theatre Tour since 2013.

Alongside this, Hanif is the founder and creative director of Tabla UK and hosts numerous workshops, classes and events.

Piotr Damasiewicz — composer, trumpeter, multi-instrumentalist, educator and traveler, president of the Listening and Sounding Foundation. In his work, he combines jazz, improvised, ethnic and experimental music, creating projects on the border of different genres and arts. He is the author of numerous orchestral and interdisciplinary compositions, including “Hadrons” created for the Jazztopad Festival and “Suite 29” written for the Second Polish Radio Program on the occasion of the World Jazz Days. He also creates theater and film music. Winner of many awards, including Fryderyk, the Warto Award and the Krzysztof Komeda Composer Competition. He was twice recognized as trumpeter of the year in the “Jazz Forum” plebiscite. He has collaborated with, among others, Tomasz Stańka, David Murray, Jason Moran, James Carter, Marcin Masecki and the Aukso Orchestra. He has performed at festivals such as the London Jazz Festival, Tokyo Jazz Festival and Jazz Jamboree. It has appeared in Asia, Africa, the USA and almost all of Europe. An essential part of his activity is education by engaging in educational missions in the World, and working with sound and attentive listening. In 2019, he made a solitary walking pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, making recordings of improvisations in sacred spaces. The motto of his Listening and Sounding Foundation is “everything starts with sound.”
