The history of the violin sonata can be thought of evolutionarily, seeing the gradual transformations and refinements of this form, but it can also be seen as the history of smaller and larger masterpieces, the perfection of which results not from their place on the timeline, but from their timeless value.
Johann Sebastian Bach's Sonata in A major BWV 1015 is a work that never gets old. Even Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach claimed this, and this is significant, because he himself belonged to a completely different generation stylistically. Maybe it's a matter of expressive melodies? Or an endearing partnership of violin and harpsichord parties? There are many reasons to be found, but this sonata is certainly a unique jewel in the treasury of violin literature.
J.S. Bach's compositions, however, were not created in a vacuum. At that time, Johann Georg Pisendel was certainly an important source of inspiration — both as a violinist and as a composer. Being a virtuoso, he knew perfectly well how to create a piece that would highlight all the qualities of the player. And if the soloist is Rachel Podger, then only the best impressions can be expected.
