“Journey to the times of childhood” — exhibition of works of art by grandfather and grandchildren /Jacek DeHo Cieżkowicz

Is it possible to return to childhood with the help of art? It turns out that yes - and it is best to do it together, intergenerational.

The Wrocław Senior Center invites you to a unique exhibition of art works “Journey to Childhood”, authored by Jacek DeHo Cieżkowicz and his grandchildren — Jakub and Gabriela Cieżkowicz.

It is an extraordinary meeting of two worlds: children's freedom and imagination and mature memory and experience. The paintings of the grandfather and the works of his grandchildren create a story about childhood, memories and what can connect generations.As the author of the exhibition says: “Every child is the greatest artist in the world! Every adult, even an old man, was once a child!”

In the works of Jacob and Gabriela, the grandfather finds a piece of his own childhood. He tries to stop it and mark it in his paintings. Color, line and imagination thus become the thread that connects generations.

Jacek DeHo Cieżkowicz was born in Wrocław. He is a medical doctor, a specialist in thoracic surgery. He also worked as a ship's doctor on deep-sea fishing trawlers. Since childhood, his great passion has been the visual arts — painting, drawing and sketching. He does not have a formal art education, in his work he is guided primarily by intuition and his own experiences.

His artistic path was greatly influenced by numerous travels, including through the South Seas and the west coast of North America. Interest in the cultures of indigenous peoples, as well as subsequent high-mountain trekking and expeditions to the Himalayas, were reflected in his work.

At the same time, the artist has been trying for years to find in himself the sensitivity of the child and the memories of childhood. In this journey he is helped by his grandson Jacob and his granddaughter Gabriela, whose children's works we will also see in the exhibition.
