Travel around the world in 125 days

125 days, 7 countries and one extraordinary trip around the world!

We invite you to a travel meeting with Celina Bigos, who will talk about her solo trip through Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Thailand, South Korea, Japan and the United States.

The meeting will take place on 21 October 2026 (Wednesday) at 17:00 in the reading room of the Main Library, ul. Franciszkańska 11 (1st floor).

Admission is free.

It will be a story about traveling thousands of kilometers and discovering remote corners of the world. It will also be a story of extraordinary encounters, returns after years, emotions, adventures and surprises that make the trip remain in memory long after returning home.

A special place in the expedition of Celina Bigos was occupied by Zambia and Zimbabwe. The speaker returned there to the places where in the late 1980s and early 1990s she worked on missions as an English teacher. After 38 years, she met her former students — it was one of the most personal and emotional experiences of the entire trip.

The next stages brought a completely different experience. In Sri Lanka and Thailand, Celina became involved in volunteering, thanks to which she was able to look at the life of local communities from a perspective inaccessible to the ordinary tourist. Then came the encounter with the modernity of South Korea and the fascination with Japan - its nature, tradition and unusual intermingling of the past with the future. The route also led through the United States, completing a 125-day trip around the world.

During the meeting we will hear about the places and people we met along the way, but also about what gives us the courage to venture out into the world alone and realize our dreams regardless of age. The story of Celina Bigos shows that retirement does not have to mean giving up activity — it can be the beginning of a whole new adventure. The speaker's story will be accompanied by a show of photos taken during her trip.
