Double opening of exhibitions — HEM Anna Baumgart and Can You Trust the Red Rose of Lithuania

On October 23, we invite you to the double opening of the exhibitions HEM Anna Baumgart and Can You Trust the Red Rose of Lithuania.

The HEM exhibition combines the works of Anna Baumgart from different moments of her work — from early video productions and sculptures to the latest installations prepared for CSW Ujazdowski Castle. The combined works from different stages of the artist's activity form into a story in which recurring themes, images and tensions resonate in completely new contexts.

The central motif of the exhibition is the woman's body — which has been present in Anna Baumgart's work for years as a kind of space for writing: identity, memory and resistance. For the artist, however, it is never exclusively private, but remains entangled in social, political and environmental relations. The individual is constantly intertwined with the collective.

The leading theme of the exhibition Can You Trust the Red Rose of Lithuania is the eponymous trust. What does it mean to trust — to systems, to other people, to yourself — when everything around you seems increasingly fuzzy, fragile and uncertain?

The paintings, spatial works and animations of the Rose of Lithuania prompt reflection on the individual and social dimensions of trust. At a time when distrust of institutions is on the rise and digital media are piercing the contours of the present world and questioning our sense of reality, art — thanks to its power of expression and its resistance to all sorts of simplifications — allows a penetrating expression of growing anxieties.
