Point Blank - The Alcatraz Killer

During a robbery at Alcatraz, gangster Walker (Lee Marvin) is gunned down and left badly injured by his friend Mal Reese. Reese not only runs away with $93,000, but also with Walker's wife Lynne. When Walker turns up in Los Angeles a few years later, he embarks on an icy quest for revenge with the help of the enigmatic Yost and Lynne's sister Chris (Angie Dickinson). At the same time, Walker returns time and again to the betrayal on Alcatraz in small flashbacks. John Boorman's stylised neo-noir blasts the genre's universe into colour and modernist spaces, filled with sudden bursts of violence. The result is a deeply entertaining and almost abstract revenge film in which colour, architecture and cutting are as crucial as the action itself.
