About the event

Akababuru: Expression of Surprise, dir. Irati Dojura Landa Yagarí, Colombia, Karmata Rua Reserve, 2025, 14 min

Kari, a girl from the Emberá tribe who is afraid to laugh, meets Kera, who tells her the myth of Kiraparamia, a woman punished by the gods for making fun of her husband. Kera gives the story a new meaning and tells Kari that it was laughter that set her free. Inspired by these words, Kari uses laughter to face those who torment her.

A documentary that presents the feelings, opinions and perspectives of four representatives of indigenous peoples. The characters reflect on the concept of “civilization” — both local and global. In 2018, Aruma (Bolivian artist) held an artistic residency in the Imboré indigenous community in Aldeia do Cachimbo (Bahia state). Together with the indigenous artist Mangtxai Imboré, he created the installation “Pulsation”, a cocoon equipped with a microcontroller and a heart rate sensor that converts the heartbeat of people entering it into light.

Ancestral Intelligence, dir. Sebastián Gerlic, Brazil, 2025, 13 min

The voices of the Kariri-Xocó, Payaya, Maricito, Tapuya, Desana, Tikuna and Kaingang peoples from different corners of Brazil weave together in a personal reflection on intelligence, art and the future of humanity.

Song of the Moon — Tupinambá anime from Brazil, directed by Sebastián Gerlic, Brazil, 2025, 4 min

During a moonless night, the village of the Tupinambá people (indigenous people of Brazil) is immersed in a disturbing silence. Time seems to be suspended between the dense darkness and the artificial glow of the screens that hypnotize the younger generation. Children sleep hugging mobile phones, while the ancestral fire on the common hearth barely smolders. As a curious girl approaches the elders gathered around the extinguishing embers, the village shaman breaks the silence by shaking the sacred rattle of the maracá. Her rhythmic beats sound like the heartbeat of the earth, evoking forgotten memories, while the shaman sings songs in honor of Jaca (Moon) and Tupã (God), calling not only people, but also the moon and nature itself to celebrate life.
