About the event

We invite young people on a journey through the most beautiful songs inspired by Polish folklore, national dances and native culture. The program of the concert was designed to show how artists from the Vistula River drew on folk tradition and the richness of the local landscape, creating compositions with exceptional force of expression, deeply rooted in the history and heritage of our Motherland.

This meeting with music will open the overture to Jan Stefani's first national opera The Miracle Mniemany, or Krakowiacy i Górale by Jan Stefani to the libretto by Wojciech Bogusławski. This work, read as an allegory of the political situation of the decline of the First Polish Republic, became an important reference point in later works in this genre in Poland. Next will be fragments of Ludomir Różycki's Pan Twardowski ballet — a composition full of colours and humour referring to the legend of a nobleman who, like Faust, sold the soul of the devil. There will also be one of the most recognizable polonaises: The Farewell to the Motherland by Michał Kleofas Ogiński.

Undoubtedly, an important element of the identity of many generations of Poles is Podhale folklore. During the concert, he will appear in the famous Highland Dances from Stanisław Moniuszko's Halka opera, recognized as the father of Polish national opera. He is also present in the lively Dance of the Robbers from Karol Szymanowski's ballet Harnasie. This piece, inspired by the culture of the inhabitants of the Tatra foothills, is one of the most impressive compositions in the history of Polish art, delighting with its energy, dynamic rhythms and unique highlander temperament. On the other hand, in the first part of the Little Suite — Fujarka — we will hear the artistic elaboration of folk melodies. Witold Lutosławski combined here the expressiveness of folklore with the modern musical language of the 20th century, creating a work filled with lightness and containing the entire spectrum of orchestral colors.

The aim of the concert is to discover the most interesting cards from the musical history of Poland: young people will have the opportunity to listen to outstanding works, and thanks to the context they will better understand their significance for its own cultural heritage. The meeting is also intended to encourage the gathered listeners to discover the richness of the native tradition and to build a conscious connection with the culture of our Motherland.

At the end of the event, a musical surprise was planned on the occasion of the upcoming Santa Claus Day. This visit to NFM will be a source of unforgettable impressions for young people.
