Poland Again: Michał Przeperski — Almost West. Stories of Polish Transformation.

We invite you to the next meeting of the series “Polska od Nowa”. This time our guest will be Dr. Michał Przeperski, author of the book “Almost West. History of the Polish Transformation.”

How did we remember the Polish nineties? What has the transformation changed — not only in the economy and politics, but also in everyday life, social aspirations and sense of security? The meeting will be an opportunity to talk about the experiences of the period that largely shaped contemporary Poland.

“Almost the West. Histories of Polish Transformation” is a story about the transformations of the nineties seen from different perspectives. The author looks at both the people who co-created the new reality and those who faced its costs and uncertainty. The book was published in September 2026 by PORT Publishing House.

Michał Przeperski is a Doctor of History, an employee of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a spokesperson for the Museum of Polish History. In his research work, he deals with the history of Central Europe in the 20th century and the processes of political and social transformation.

The meeting will be led by Maria Wincławska, PhD, UMK Professor and Wojciech Peszyński, PhD, UMK Professor from the Faculty of Political and Security Sciences at UMK. The program also includes questions from the audience. After the meeting there will be an opportunity to receive the author's autograph and take a souvenir photo.
