Dupah is a vampire who has one rather fundamental problem: he has never bitten anyone. A complex of too-small fangs kept him sitting in his family castle in Burbank for years and feeding on the remains of blood sucked out of straws from plastic bags. In the end, however, his father loses patience and throws him out of the house. So Dupah has to go hunting on his own for the first time.
He is accompanied by sister Yvonne and... the skeleton of Sphincter's long-dead brother. On his way, Dupah meets Dolores, an instructor at a local fitness club and a big fan of vampire movies. She is initially set to become his first victim, but things get complicated when a shy bloodsucker begins to fall in love with her.
Polish Vampire in Burbank is an extremely low-budget, absurd horror comedy that Mark Pirro not only wrote, produced and directed, but also played the lead role in it and voiced several other characters. The film was made for two and a half years, and the entire soundtrack was prepared in post-production.
The premiere took place on October 30, 1983, during a night screening at the legendary Nuart Theater in Los Angeles, in an almost sold-out hall. Later, the film functioned for years in the VHS circuit and the night bands of American television, earning the status of a cult singularity of Class B cinema. It also received a Silver Award at the Houston International Film Festival.
Years later, Pirro returned to the original materials and prepared a restored version of the film, improving the image and playing the soundtrack from the original audio tapes.
This is vampire cinema definitely “from a different vein”: romantic, idiotic, homely and made with such an amount of enthusiasm that it is difficult not to cheer.
