Unfolding over the course of a high-stakes Valentine’s Day in New Jersey, Ponyboi follows a young intersex sex worker forced to run for his life from the mob when a drug deal goes catastrophic, driving him straight into a confrontation with his past.
This gritty neo-noir thriller blends sleek, neon-drenched crime drama with a deeply tender story of self-discovery, survival, and belonging.
Ponyboi forms a vital part of our Trans Awareness Programme as a groundbreaking milestone for gender-expansive cinema. Written by and starring intersex activist River Gallo, it stands as the first narrative feature film created by and centered on an intersex person. Rather than treating intersex identity as a medical anomaly or a punchline, Ponyboi offers rare, authentic visibility—framing intersex experience with agency, swagger, and fierce humanity.
