The Pornfilmfestival Berlin is an independent, non-commercial film festival financed without public funding on the topics of sexuality, politics, feminism, gender diversity, post-porn and body politics. Founded in 2006, it is therefore the first of its kind in Germany.
The festival program features an average of 25 to 30 feature films and around 100 short films, which address questions about sexual morality, identities, body norms, moral concepts around the world and the artistic-alternative use of the genre of pornography. Of the audience reached on average 8000, just over half are female; in total, the audience is straight, homo-, bi-, trans\ *, non-binary and queer mixed and, with just under 50% visitors from all over the world, is extremely international. The film festival is surrounded by panel discussions, lectures, readings, workshops, performances and many discussions and presentations on the topic of sexuality today. The numerous festivals with a similar focus, which emerged in many cities and countries following the founding of PFF Berlin, prove that a discourse on an empowering approach to sexuality and sex work is still current and that networking is important not only for the community.
The festival was founded by filmmaker and producer Jürgen Brüning. It is organized in Berlin on a voluntary basis by a dedicated international team of six people, consisting of filmmakers, film theorists, film producers and journalists. The festival usually takes place in the last week of October in Germany's oldest cinema, in the Moviemento in Berlin-Kreuzberg, at the Colloseum film theater in Prenzlauer Berg and in Babylon Kreuzberg.
