FIRST ACADEMY AWARD WINNER — SCREENING OF THE PORTIER OF THE ATLANTIC HOTEL (1924)
We will show a masterpiece from a hundred years ago, which still inspires today. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's film starring Emil Jannings is a moving story of passing, a psychological drama and a symbolic parable about the whims of fate. At the same time, this is the first example of a film in which a free, “released” camera becomes a full-fledged narrator.
Let yourself be convinced that silent cinema can say more than the loudest hits of our time!
The film will be presented in a reconstructed, digital version, made available to us by the Murnau-Stiftung in Weimar, Germany's leading institution for the study, popularization and protection of the film heritage of our neighbors.
Emil Jannings (1884-1950) is a legendary German actor, the first Oscar winner for his male role. In the 1920s he came to the stage of the Municipal Theater in Liegnitz for guest performances.
Digital quality! New music! Old cinema in a modern version!
