Student day on the exhibition “Portraits! Surprising encounters from Botticelli to Lempicka”
The event is aimed exclusively at students and trainees.
Admission is free of charge with appropriate proof.
What do portraits say about us? And what happens when portraits from different historical, geographical and social contexts come together? Art history students from Freie Universität Berlin and the Gemäldegalerie invite you to a student day for students and trainees from all disciplines around the exhibition “Portraits! Surprising encounters from Botticelli to Lempicka”.
The Students' Day offers the opportunity to get to know the new special exhibition from different perspectives and to talk together based on the works. Guided tours, discussion formats and workshops address questions that still make portraits relevant today: What do they tell about identity, status, body, gender or self-presentation? And how does our vision change when works from different periods come into contact with each other? In addition to playing with the works, there is time to get to know, exchange and network in a more open atmosphere.
The student day was the result of a seminar in which the participating students intensively studied the exhibition last semester. Your perspectives and questions will be addressed in a varied program that is intended to stimulate thought and discussion.
No previous knowledge of art history is necessary — just curiosity about images, people and surprising encounters.
