The titular “shrew” is not only a capricious heroine here, but above all a woman who does not fit into the framework in which others think she should function. Therefore, Kasia does not rebel without a reason — her resistance is a reaction to the world that denies her the right to decide for herself. As soon as she tries to go beyond the scheme, she is immediately pigeonholed.

About the event

Original Title: The Taming of the ShrewAuthor: William Shakespeare's Lublin production of The Taming of the Shrew is not only a classic retelling of the story of Kasia and Petruchia's relationship — it is also a thrilling clash of two worlds: the rich, elite Padua and its reverse — the mysterious country house of Petruchia.

In this performance, the Kases, because there are three of them, are torn from the audience and thrown into the world of theater created by Petruchi and the other characters. There are more people willing to direct the life of the title character — her father and sister also assign her predetermined roles. And we, watching this game, begin to ask ourselves questions: Where do social labels come from? How much do they influence our choices? Is it possible to throw off a patch once glued? And what are the boundaries between what is pretended and imposed on us and what is real?

The action of the show takes place in a scenography inspired by Renaissance painting. However, the creators do not stop at the classical framework of Shakespeare's theater. Spectators are waiting for a performance that is thoroughly contemporary, touching on important topics, and the richness of theatrical means of expression will allow - we hope - to enter the world of ideas and emotions that, although described several centuries ago, have not aged at all.
