A Deluge to ABBY's Rhythm
Kmicic does not necessarily fight for Poland, and Maria Konopnicka teaches Oleńka feminism. Here the turntable spins all night, hussars enter the stage to the rhythm of disco, and the country hut falls asleep to the sounds of pulsating techno. This is a “Flood” like no other.
Inspired by the novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz, the play evokes in a provocative and perverse way the myths of our native culture and pop culture in order to examine their vitality and relevance in the context of the contemporary world.
The screenwriter and director in one person wants to explore how much and how Sienkiewicz's characters populate our minds, to what extent and how they resonate with our collective imagination, and whether we still take them all seriously. Or is it precisely under Sienkiewicz's seriousness that Gombrowicz's irony and distance to this and not another version of domestic history is hidden? Very loud sound effects appear in the performance.Cigarettes are smoked on the stage.
The performance took part in the 31st National Competition for the Exhibition of Polish Contemporary Art.
AWARDS AND HONORATIONSTheatre Awards of the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship for Michał Siegoczyński for the script and direction of the play and for Katarzyna Borkowska for her role as Oleńka.
Piotr Witkowski awarded in the 37th Subjective List of Theatre Actors by Jacek Sieradzki for his role as Kmicic.
