Monsters from the closet | “I like bats” + perfo: House of Rzza

“Monsters from the Closet” is a project that combines genre cinema with a queer perspective and brings the phenomenon of drag as a diverse, inclusive form of artistic expression closer to the Gdańsk audience.

Each meeting combines a drag performance, a lecture and a film screening.

The meeting on October 17 will be special, as “Monsters from the Closet” will be accompanied by a live audio description.

House of Rust

House of Rdza is a Gdańsk drag house existing since 2024. Its founding mothers are Lady Mushroomer and Lora Ipsum. Over time, two cousins, Tuliluliuwu and Sliver, began to live in it.

Iza, played by Catherine Walter, is a young, well-off woman. During the day, she runs a specialty store with her aunt, and at night she turns into a vampire who drinks the blood of naive, impetuous men. When psychiatrist Rudolf Jung, played by Mark Barbasievich, appears in her life, Iza asks him to be cured of vampirism.

The film is a strange hybrid of horror and comedy, which has gained the status of a cult picture both in Poland and abroad.

The show features intense light effects and smoke. The film is intended for adults only. It contains sensitive content, including physical, psychological and sexual violence and nudity.

The project is under the patronage of Radio Gdańsk and the matronate of the magazine “Replika”.

The project “Workshop of Popular Culture: Critical Reception and Creative Practice” was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund — a state special purpose fund.

The building and the performance hall are accessible for people with alternative motor skills. It is possible to connect a mobile induction loop. There is a toilet for people with disabilities and a changing table. No designated parking spaces.
