Scene: Large Foyer (Large Stage)
The story of the Ark, behind whose back there is a persistent thought in his head. A thought that accompanies him all the time, despite the fact that he is not the most sociable person. She is with him in every, worst situation. And yet, when you are 12 years old, the worst situations happen every day.
The show addresses the issue of peer violence. Arek is a introverted boyfriend who spends most of his time listening to music. His inseparable companion (apart from the already mentioned insistent Thought) is a cheap beat machine and it is in its sounds that Arek finds a safe space.
How do you find yourself in a world where school bullies set the pace? Where to run when the only beat is the one knocked out by the teacher? In our story, the answer is to put on headphones — which we also propose to you. Immerse yourself in theatrical silent disco to move into the world of sounds, both persistent and soothing. Maybe you just need to listen hard enough to make dark thoughts a little more bearable?
A performance prepared in the formula Theater in the classroom. If you would like to invite a performance to your school, please contact the Audience Service Office, tel. 91 489 23 23.
— The performance was staged at the 58th INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL KONTRAPUNKT (accompanying event).
“The escape for the main character, tormented by his peers, is in the performance of the musician in Szczecin. Arek spends his free time playing and creating sounds using a beat machine. The world of music does not so much cut him off from reality as it mixes with a persistent voice in his head giving him his worst thoughts and memories. The audience is also convinced of this, who, like the cast, wear headphones on their ears during the performance. This has a paralyzing effect, almost literally taking us to the Ark's head bombarded with negative thoughts. So the headphones are not only an element of the plot, but also a tool that co-creates the theatrical experience.”
