If we are lucky, we are born queens or kings — having adults at every nook and cranny. We discover our power through crying, screaming, or a kind smile. Growing up, however, we also begin to experience powerlessness in relation to the world around us.
“Power Play” is a play created by children and adults, however, it does not tell about childhood. On the contrary, it looks at adulthood as a process of assuming roles, with vague and often elusive rules. In this performance, children share the stage with TR Warszawa actors. They get to know the taste of power, savor its sweetness, and at the same time confront its fragility, terror and the betrayal that accompanies it. The script was based on the improvisation of the band, drawing inspiration from the novel “King Maciuś the First” by Janusz Korczak, in which the boy unexpectedly becomes king and tries to correct the mistakes of adults.
But at a time when political leaders often behave like “children,” shouldn't the division between children and adults be rethought? “Power Play” asks: how does raising a child differ from shaping society? How to allow children to remain “innocent and free” and who (for) pays the price for this freedom? And if “adulthood” is the biggest role of life, from whom to learn it if not from professional actors?
In the performance appear: flashing lights, stage smoke, the experience of loss and the theme of war (in the style of children's play), interaction with the audience.
