Beyond Borders: Aleksander Kaczorowski on Milan Kundera

Two names, two biographies and one Europe, whose borders turn out to be much more complicated than those on the maps. Milan Kundera and Aleksander Kaczorowski will meet in this conversation through a book — a biography of one of the most important Czech writers of the 20th century, written by an author who has been fascinated by the culture of our southern neighbors for years.

We will look at the phenomenon of Czech literature, its irony, melancholy and special ability to tell a story through the fate of the individual. We will also talk about Central Europe: a land of borders, memory and ambiguous identities, and the experience of creation in exile, between languages, places and worlds. It will be a meeting about Kundera, but also about what literature can save from the experience of uprooting and how to tell about Europe, whose most important stories often begin right on its outskirts.
