Out of the Box: THE PECULIAR WORLD OF HIERONYMUS BOSCH

“The Peculiar World of Hieronymus Bosch” by David Bickerstaff UK, 2016, 87 minutes

The film was created during an extraordinary, absolutely unique exhibition, thanks to which in one place, Bosch's hometown in the Netherlands, practically all of his most important paintings and drawings, scattered every day around the world, were collected. This huge exhibition was visited by almost half a million visitors, marveling at Bosch's eccentric visions. Grabsky's film asks the question who was Hieronymus Bosch? Why did his strange and fantastic paintings become so popular? How does the work of this Dutch painter combine medieval art and the Renaissance world? Where did he finally get his inspiration, where could his unconventional and timeless visions, full of complicated symbolism, come from?
