About the event

On the treadmill of life

“True Story” by Olga Tokarczuk, directed by Michał Zadara

This is a funny show about a professor who is late for a banquet. Tokarchuk shows that a small case is enough for tamed things to move from place and show their other side.

Director Michał Zadara brings the text to the stage exactly as it was written. It allows actors to play with a story that unfolds faster and faster until it pulls everyone into an increasingly lively rhythm. The suit turns into the suit of the pursued, and a business trip - into a nightmarish adventure.

The journey, so important for Tokarczuk, becomes an emotional journey here: from calm to panic, from distance to the full experience of life. A treadmill appears on the scene - a machine that pulls the hero into a rush.

The second part of the show is “Passenger”. After the rush and bustle of the first part, we hear the voice of an alien on a night plane. Tokarczuk says that this story “turns us towards ourselves” — we open ourselves to someone else's story and we can find something familiar in it.

Spectacle. “True Story” shows how easy it is to find yourself on the other side of the glass and how amazing every moment of life can be.
