Aneta Grzeszykowska addresses existential themes in her works, explores the phenomenon of identity, traces the ambivalence of the human image.

The artist is interested in the performative dimension of photography and the potential of this medium, allowing to manipulate images and their creative travestations. For example, she removes characters from photographs, questions her own identity, and also unceremoniously captures the works of other artists for her own needs.

Grzeszykowska's primary creative material remains her own body, through which she explores the complex spectrum of identity. In the conceptual sphere, therefore, the experiences and emotions drawn from her own life are also important for her. The artist works most often in cycles, which allows her to repeatedly process various aspects of the problems and phenomena she undertakes. In addition to photographs, Grzeszykowska's most famous works include sculptures-dolls sewn since 2007 as self-portraits or imaginary images from her daughter's future.

The exhibition is retrospective. It will show works from eleven photographic cycles realized between 2006 and 2026, as well as videos and a sculpture of Francis 2025 from the CSW Collection. The substantive coherence that characterizes Grzeszykowska's work allows for an achronological connection of photographs from different series. From this peculiar palimpsest emerges a story of a progressive deconstruction of one's own identity, a growing existential anxiety, and an inevitable transition—a gradual slide into nothingness. Fortunately, the artist often counters the thematic seriousness of her works with humorous elements, and her works are enveloped by an aura of awesomeness.
