Lawyer in the maritime industry — Heweliusz and other maritime accidents

On November 4, 2026, the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Szczecin will host the 3rd edition of the conference from the series “Lawyer in the maritime industry”, organized jointly with the Law and Administration Law Firm Wind & Water Legal Zbroma. This year's event will be devoted to the issues of maritime accidents, with a special focus on their causes, shipping safety and legal liability. The starting point for discussion will be the disaster of the ferry “Jan Heweliusz”, one of the most tragic disasters in the history of Polish shipping. The conference participants will try to answer the question of whether the tragedy could have been prevented by analyzing its circumstances from both a technical and a legal perspective. The conference program includes speeches by experts specializing in ship construction and stability and maritime rescue. The legal consequences of maritime accidents will also be discussed, including issues related to liability and the course of proceedings conducted in the future
