Giving a good talk before a movie is quite a challenge. The screenings of films in the Discussion Film Club “Giant” are usually preceded by an introductory word prepared by our guests or TCK staff, this time we invite you to give a lecture before the selected film and participate in the Tarnogórski Speaker Competition. As part of the event, films of high artistic merit will be presented, and the competition itself is aimed at disseminating the art of speech as a method of popularizing knowledge about film.
The contestants will give lectures before the Icelandic drama “The Love That Stays”, the critically acclaimed thriller “The Secret Agent” and Emelie Blichfeldt's film “The Ugly Sister”.
About the film:
“Secret Agent” is one of the most electrifying titles of recent years. Nominated for an Oscar in 4 categories (including Best Film), winner of two Golden Globes, two awards in the competition of the Cannes festival. The film by Kleber Mendonça Filho (“Aquarius”, “Bacurau”), belonging to the top of the most outstanding directors of modern world cinema, evokes the spirit of classic gangster cinema. At the same time, he bravely combines moral threads with epic pomp, humor with sex appeal, nostalgia with horror.
Mendonça Filho's film is set in Brazil in the 1970s during a carnival. Immersed in the scorching sun, the city of Recife is on the verge of madness: during a danced holiday, people die, somewhere on the beach a shark with a human leg in its belly was found, and among the crowds are two killers with a secret mission... Colors and joy are only appearances - these are the times of brutal military dictatorship. Marcelo, the protagonist of “Secret Agent”, is a man accidentally entangled in a web of political and criminal intrigues reaching the heights of power. He was honest, so he became the target of a corrupt system and now every next step could cost him his life. How do you save yourself and your family in a world of brutal violence, false identities, wiretaps and lies?
