A PRIME MINISTER THAT WENT WRONG
Unfortunately it happened, but the longest-played comedy in the West End will also bring organized chaos to the stage of Krakow's VARIETE Theater. We present an absolutely (not) perfect story and apologize in advance to everyone involved, but this time really everything will go WRONG. “The Play That Goes Wrong”, directed by Janusz Szydłowski, will begin its series of comic mistakes on February 3, 2024.
“The Premiere That Went Wrong” tells the story of the (fictional) theater troupe The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, which exhibits crime play from the 1920s, but, as the title suggests, anything that can go wrong... that's how it goes! When the floor threatens to collapse and props fall from everywhere, the confused issue seems to be the least of the problems. The accident-prone actors fight through two acts against numerous adversities to survive to the last scene, which gives birth to a series of comic events and effects. We don't know if they can solve the crime puzzle, but remember that all this madness is all about having fun!
“The Play That Goes Wrong” wins Best Comedy Award in 2015!
“The Play That Goes Wrong,” honored in 2014 with the WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Comedy, in 2015 the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, as well as the Tony Award for its transfer to Broadway, is the longest-played play at The Duchess Theatre (since the theater opened in 1929) and the longest-played comedy in the West End. This year marks 11 years since its first show on the small stage of the legendary London venue The Old Red Lion — where only four spectators saw it at the time — and there is no indication that its momentum is going to slow down. Since its release, it has been played to an audience of over two million in more than 35 countries on all continents except Antarctica, which has been shunned for fear of a chilly reception...
The success of the show is a testament to the hard work and determination of a group of acting graduates at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, who founded the Mischief agency in 2008 and started out as an improv comedy group. “The Play That Goes Wrong” was co-written by Mischief band members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields. The show was originally staged in London's West End by Kenny Wax Ltd. and Stage Presence Ltd. “The premiere that went wrong” is presented under the license of Mischief Worldwide Ltd. in a replica version, according to which all elements of the staging of the performance will be faithfully reproduced against the original. Also, marketing activities are carried out in accordance with the strict guidelines of the licensor.
Premiere: February 3.4, 2024
Duration of the performance: 2 hours 15 minutes (1 break).
O MISCHIEF
Mischief Theatre Ltd. was founded in 2008 by a group of acting graduates at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and began as an improv comedy group. Mischief performs in the UK and internationally with original lyrics and improvisations, and runs a programme of workshops. The agency still remains owned and controlled by the founding members, and on a daily basis its work is led by a creative group led by directors Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer.
Before the pandemic, Mischief had many productions played in New York and London in his repertoire. “The Play That Goes Wrong” (Duchess Theatre, playing resumed on June 18, 2021), “The Comedy About A Bank Robbery” (played at Criterion Theatre for four years), and after a record-breaking two-year run on Broadway, she also hit Off Broadway with “The Play That Goes Wrong” (New World Stages since 2019, playing resumed in October 2021, co-produced performance by Kevin McCollum and JJ Abrams). In September 2019, the band became a resident of the Vaudeville Theatre in the West End with the play “Groan Ups”, after which it also played “Magic Goes Wrong”. “Magic Goes Wrong” has returned to the West End for a closed number of performances at The Apollo Theatre played since October 2021. Mischief's other productions, including “Peter Pan Goes Wrong”, regularly tour the UK, the US and the rest of the world.
In 2017, Mischief Theatre Ltd. and Kenny Wax & Stage Presence, producers of all of the company's West End productions, created Mischief Worldwide Ltd. to manage the rights to all Mischief projects in all formats. Mischief Worldwide Ltd., headquartered in London, licenses Mischief's copyrights, trademarks and other property to Mischief manufacturers, distributors, publishers and other entities around the world.
Mischief first appeared on television as part of the Royal Variety Performance gala in 2015, followed by two BBC One Christmas specials: “Peter Pan Goes Wrong” (2016) and “A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong” (2017). In 2018, Mischief Worldwide Ltd. and Anthology Group formed Mischief Screen Ltd., an independent television production company led by CEO Hilary Strong. Their Royal Television Society award-winning series “The Goes Wrong Show” broadcast on BBC One aired in December 2019 with a Christmas special, further episodes in early 2020 and a Christmas special. The second season aired in September 2021 on BBC One and iPlayer, where the troupe combined a family saga in the style of Downton Abbey and an American-style prison escape drama, which of course produced catastrophically funny effects.
All companies develop, create and perform under the common name Mischief. Mischief develops new comedy works for theater, television, film and other media.
