We invite you to a unique meeting with music, dance and culture of India. “Sensual Indie” is an author's program by Wojciech Czemplek — violinist, traveler and musician known, among others, from the cult band Stare Dobre Matrzejko. It is an extraordinary journey in which the audience discovers the richness of oriental traditions through sounds, dance, stories and tastes.
The program lasts about 120 minutes and consists of several diverse parts. It begins with a lecture by Wojciech Czemplek combined with original footage from a tea plantation in the Indian state of Kerala. Participants will learn about the process of making tea — from harvesting the leaves to preparing them for shipment around the world. The participants of this year's edition of the meeting will also receive an interesting screening of a film about a little-known Indian episode from the life of Polish painter, cartoonist and interior designer — Stefan Norblin. The artist, along with his wife, actress Lena Żelichowska, found refuge in India during the Nazi occupation. First he painted portraits of the local aristocracy, later he made a series of paintings decorating the interior of the palace of Umaid Bhawan, the Maharaja of Jaipur. The film shows the interiors of the palace decorated with paintings and furniture designed by the Polish artist.
Dance shows are also an important element of the event. Karolina Czempli will present selected styles of classical Indian dance, including Bollywood, Kathak, Ghoomar and Lavani, at the same time introducing traditional, colorful dance costumes and showing how traditional Indian sari is worn.
The musical leader of the evening will be Mandar Purandare — lecturer at the Faculty of Indology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, actor and multi-instrumentalist. The artist plays, among others, on the blackboard, clarinet, harmony and Indian flutes, introducing the audience to the extraordinary world of oriental sounds. He will be accompanied by talented jazz saxophonist Milena Handszu, whose improvisations perfectly harmonize with the music of the Orient. Wojciech Czempli will perform on the violin, giving the concert a unique character.
The meeting will culminate with a tasting of traditional mango lassi — a refreshing drink that will allow you to complete this extraordinary journey with all your senses.
“Sensual India” is an event for all those who want to move at least for a moment to a world full of colors, sounds, smells and flavors of the Orient. It is a unique combination of concert, dance show, travel stories and encounter with Indian culture, which delights audiences all over Poland.
