Animation projection about Professor Wiktoria Śliwowska + discussion

On 3 November at 17:00 we invite you to the cinema hall of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, where a screening of the film entitled “Victoria” will take place along with a discussion with the participation of colleagues and students of Professor Wiktoria Śliwowska.

A lively short documentary film telling the extremely personal story of a girl from the Warsaw ghetto, and at the same time presenting the silhouette of a strong woman of the 20th century — Professor Wiktoria Śliwowska. How could a life that began with the tragic experience of the Warsaw ghetto and the murder of her mother become a happy biography, full of love, adventure and fascinating encounters? How do you stay happy and optimistic when you lack food, lose your job, or get sent from your beloved city to the unknown? How not to go crazy when at the university, instead of history and literature, the cult of the totalitarian leader matters first of all?

After the screening, there will be a discussion with the participation of colleagues and students of Professor Wiktoria Śliwowska, dedicated to her life, scientific achievements and personal memories of an outstanding historian.

Wiktoria Śliwowska (1931 - 2021) was a Polish historian, researcher of the history of Russia, as well as an outstanding expert on the history of exile and the fate of Poles in the Russian Empire. For many years she was associated with the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where she conducted research and educated subsequent generations of historians.
