We invite you to another film screening organized as part of the project TATO - this time we will present the documentary “Candidates of Death” (2026, directed by Maciej Cuske, duration: 1 h 35 min.)
The choice of the film is not accidental. It is a story about the relationship between father and son, about male friendship, closeness, the experience of community and how men build bonds with each other. The film thus becomes another starting point for the conversation about contemporary fatherhood and masculinity — topics that are an important part of the TATO Project.
In a special way, we invite you to a screening of fathers with children. We want watching a movie together to be an opportunity not only to meet the cinema, but above all to be together, and to talk, for which we do not always find time every day.
“Candidates of Death” also allows you to look at the very process of making the film. Observing the work of creators, their meetings, preparations and building a common story can be an interesting reference to the process that accompanies the preparation of a theatrical performance within the framework of the TATO Project. After all, both film and theater arise from relationships, cooperation, trust and a common search.
The screening will be preceded by a lecture by filmmaker Kamila Kołacz-Bednarczyk, who will introduce the film and help to look at its most important plots. After the screening, the author of the TATO Project Filip Komajda will invite the audience to a meeting in a relaxed atmosphere, with refreshments. It will be an opportunity to talk about the film, its characters, fatherhood, masculinity and own experiences — without haste and without a formal stage.
About the film:
For more than 15 years, three boys, together with the father of one of them, go on vacation every year to shoot another amateur horror film in the open air and mysterious places of Poland. What began as Maciej's idea to distract the boys from computers, eventually grew into a unique, multi-year adventure and film series called “Death Candidates”.
Today, the “boys” are almost 30 years old, each of them is looking for their own way, and the film is a record of their joint cinematic adventures and passing time. It is a story about growing up, the relationship between father and son, male friendship, fears and dreams, but above all about the strength of the bond that endured more than a dozen years of joint vacations and subsequent film expeditions.
Will the friendship of the heroes last until the end of the world?
