29 October (Thursday), 17:00 Conference Room Lublin, 4 Gabriela Narutowicza Street Free admission
The Scout Graves of Lublin is the fourth and not the last book by Stanisław Dąbrowski — a member — correspondent of LTN, which was published in print on September 7 this year. It is an expression of tribute and memory of people who have dedicated a part, and some of their lives, to the greatest educational phenomenon of the 20th and 21st centuries: scouting — known worldwide as scouting. Scouting — as the creator of Polish scouting Andrzej Małkowski himself said “is scouting plus independence”. There is no struggle for independence without the existence and love of the motherland.
In an introduction from the publisher hm. Angelika Karczmarz — Commandant of Hufca ZHP Lublin writes: “Each grave described is not only a resting place, but also a story about a man, his service, achievements and legacy. We hope that the publication will become a help for everyone interested in the history of our city and local scouting. May it also be an inspiration to visit these places, light a symbolic candle and cherish the memory of those who built the Lublin scouting environment before us”.
Physically and biologically, all of us will die someday. But not “everything” dies, remaining in the memory of our loved ones, in photographs, letters, memories, in documents and in the graves of the deceased, monuments, etc. It is only up to us how long and in what forms the memory of the people who have inscribed on the pages of history the honor due to them will live for generations.
Stanisław Dąbrowski's book perpetuates the memory of more than 250 outstanding scouts and instructors buried in seven cemeteries of the City of Lublin. Each password of the name is documented with a photo and biography of the deceased, a photograph of the grave and a tombstone, the location of the burial place. Among the names we find well-known figures of the Lublin world of science: Dr. Krystyna Czyż-Wilgat, Prof. Tadeusz Wilgat, Doc. Dr. Jan Gurba, Rev. Florian Krasuski, Prof. Janina Blaut-Opieńska, Prof. Kazimierz Goebla, Dr. Lesław Paga and Dr. Leopold Tadeusz Brzyski; the world of journalism — among others. Alojzy Leszek Gzella, Lesław Gnot, Stanisław Duszak, Bogdan Siwecki and Marek Wyszkowski; as well as representatives of the Lublin world of culture and art, including Andrzej Chmielarczyk. There are also a dozen names of living people who are known to be buried in family tombs in Lublin cemeteries. This is a kind of guide to Lublin cemeteries, complementing the knowledge about the dead, not always associated with their scouting past.
