Against...

Gombrowicz was against. Against poets, artists, snobbery, Poland, forms imposed on man, and sometimes also against himself.

“Against...” directed by Mikołaj Grabowski, inspired by “Dzienniki”, “Ferdydurke” and “Against Poets: A Dialogue on Poetry with Czesław Miłosz”, is a meeting with Gombrowicz who is uncompromising, contemptuous and constantly challenging what we take for granted. It is a story of opposition, which is not a simple negation, but an attempt to maintain freedom, distance and remain oneself.

Can words written more than half a century ago describe us today?

Mikołaj Grabowski has been creating his own theatre based on memoir, memoir and autobiographical literature for years. His interpretations of the classics are distinguished by a characteristic combination of irony, humor and insightful reflection on Polish identity, and Witold Gombrowicz's work occupies a special place in his work.

The play “Against...” directed by Mikołaj Grabowski will inaugurate the 17th International Gombrowicz Festival.

“Against...” is another meeting of the eminent director with the ensemble of the Jan Kochanowski Powszechny Theatre in Radom. Previously, he realized here “Polish Memories” according to Witold Gombrowicz (2012), “The Wedding” by Stanisław Wyspiański (2014) and “The Wedding” by Witold Gombrowicz (2016).

The license to use the works was granted by the Association of Authors ZAiKS.
