Can an item that is no longer used still be valid? Can an old piece of equipment, ornament, vessel or piece of equipment tell a new story? During the workshops accompanying the exhibition “The Imagined Object” we will look at things from the collection of the House of Hippolytus not only as museum exhibits, but also as starting points for the imagination. Together we will consider what happens to objects when they lose their former function. Once they served daily activities, today they are viewed, protected and interpreted. Some may seem unnecessary, but they can still attract attention, evoke associations, trigger memory, or inspire you to create something new.
About the event
In the workshop, participants will choose one object and try to look at it differently: by its shape, material, traces of use, possible history or a completely new meaning. Then, with the help of a drawing, a short text, a collage or a simple design, they will create their own version of the “imagined object”. We will not be recreating the old function of items. Instead, we'll look at how they can be reinvented: as protagonists of stories, signs of memory, strange tools, objects from the future or works of art.
The workshop is open to everyone. It is not necessary to have artistic experience - it is enough to have curiosity, attentiveness and a desire to look at ordinary things in an unusual way.
