“Through the Wall” is a story that really happened. In 1947, 27-year-old Wiesława Pajdak was arrested and sent to the communist prison on Rakowiecka. A few days later, 27-year-old Jerzy Smiechowski is sent to the same prison. One night they start a conversation through the wall using Morse code, and although it is hard to believe, the young fall in love with each other. After six years of meeting, they see each other “live” for the first time during their prison wedding. After being released, they live together happily for 55 years. This is the story of an extraordinary encounter and the love that saved them both.
“In this story, the most important thing is love, with its ruthless power, ushering in a new, better world order, to which from now on everything, regardless of the situation, must submit. The totality of their love, its purity, is close to me. I would like to talk to viewers today about such a love that gives strength to survive. This story is about the fact that the other person is essential to our life. We need him to hear us, to look inside us, to see us. We have to trust Him in the same way. It doesn't happen often, but once it does, it's worth telling about it.” - Maciej Sobieszczański, director of “Through the Wall”
